Welcome to ‘The Balance’! A Website dedicated to the RP of any and all Anime Series. At ‘The Balance’ we include both the Yin and Yang aspects that are prevalent in all creativity, but focus it on Yang (masculine) anime that is classified as Shounen, as well as Yin (feminine) anime, or Shoujo, instead of concentrating on just one series. We encourage our writers to put themselves into the shoes of many different characters in the creation of collaborative stories of their choosing. In keeping with this theme, we are pleased to offer the opportunity to include Final Fantasy, Kingdom Hearts, and any other game that keeps to the general Japanese anime or stylized genre.
That being said… take a moment to get your bearings by reading over the rules. Introduce yourself, make new friends, and join us in sharing our passion for great writing and art from the myriad of Anime, Manga series, etc both past and present!

{name:Hinata#|#picture:0}"There is no need to worry about it. Things like this happen, but thankfully, it's nothing that's too bad it cannot be fixed." Hinata took out her pouch, searching for the jar of anti-septic cream. Like every shinobi pouch, it carried kunai, shuriken, exploding notes, all the essentials. However, Hinata also stored her homemade herbal medicines and creams in it. Her teammates, Kiba and Shino, were amazed at how well she could fit an extra jar of cream in her pouch. While a jar did consume space, it was really all about how one arranged the objects to the best way possible. It made storage for extra supplies much easier.
Hinata was glad she brought her herbal cream with her. I can help this person. But now, I need to see the affected area. Smiling well-meaningly, she said "Please relax. It will take only a moment." With that, Hinata checked the cut on the girl's foot. Trailing a finger near the cut, the Hyuuga girl wondered whether she should hit a pressure point to stop the bleeding. But, it isn't so serious. I don't want to scare her or hurt her. The problem is how to clear away the blood so I can spread the cream across it.
Turning back to her patient, the young Genin said "I hope you don't mind my asking this, but how long have you lived here? Has Gatou been here that long? I'm sorry for burdening you with shinobi affairs, but I would like to know in order to help get rid of him."
After pawing in her pouch for a moment, she came upon her small jar of cream. "I know I sound repetitive, but it is true. I want to help get rid of him. It is what my team is here for." Eyeing the bit of crimson dropping from her foot, Hinata twisted open the lid off the jar. She looked at the untouched white cream, then at the red slash on the girl's foot, then at the ground around them. It would be good if I had a bandage or two...
Team 8's young kunoichi couldn't just let the other girl alone. Sighing, she said "I hope you don't mind my using a leaf to wipe away some of the blood of your foot." Picking up a green leaf that Hinata knew would not be rough or give the other girl any skin irritation, she scraped the blood off her foot. With two fingers on her right hand, Hinata administered some cream over the cut gently. Not too much, or too little.
After that, she put the lid back on the jar. "How do you feel?"

{name:Haku#|#picture:29}Haku smiled inwardly, pleased that he'd read the girl so well. Surely the girl's warm heart would be the end of her... He allowed a small sound of pain to slide between his lips as his hand tenderly explored the sensitive area near his wound. “I... forgive me for being such trouble. I should have been watching where I was going, and now look at what I've done...”
He frowned, allowing his face to look troubled as he gazed down at the thin trail of blood curving a path down his foot. It was a trivial wound to a well- seasoned fighter, but it was important that the young leaf village kunoichi believed the situation was enough to offer her continued aid. Haku hadn't even begun to delve into the depths of her mind, and he didn't even want to know what Zabuza would say if he messed up an opportunity such as this.
If things went well, he could enlist her aid in his foraging. Of course, he'd altered the true reason he was out here alone. Thankfully he hadn't yet reached any patches of the healing herbs that Zabuza needed. Fate had once again smiled on him. If things had gone differently, this kunoichi would have seen the harvested herbs and realized that the person she was dealing with had an extensive knowledge of the healing arts. No, that wouldn't do at all.
“I am fortunate to have met you. If I'd have injured myself out here in the woods all alone, I don't know what I'd have done.” Casting an embarrassed glance back up at his savior, his head bowed in gratitude. “Fate must have intervened for me to meet someone with skill in medicine just when I needed her. I must confess, I'm envious. You're a skilled fighter, and now this... what else can you do?”
His heart sped up as it always did having his enemy so close. It was a shame he had to see her that way, but Haku knew where his loyalties lay, and nothing would deter him from his duties. He shifted his body on the ground, his slender fingers lifting the bottom hem of his yukata up so she could more easily tend to his wound.
Hopefully, their proximity to each other would aid his cause and cause the obviously shy girl to speak out of sheer nervousness. All he had to do was to give her the right incentive and opportunity. And if this plan of attack failed as well, it was no matter, he knew many ways of finding out what he needed to know. It was all a part of the game, the thrill of the chase.

{name:Hinata#|#picture:0}Her sudden turn of concentration on obtaining herbs for the evening's dinner was broken when she heard a cry of pain from behind her. Turning back, Hinata saw the pink-clad girl on the ground. The shy kunoichi ran towards the long-haired villager, worry evident in her tone as she asked "Are you alright? What happened?"
She kneeled by her side, feeling the crunch of dried leaves and twigs beneath her sandals. "Please sit up so I can see..." The twelve-year-old Genin let her white eyes run down from head to toe. Besides the beautiful, long, brown hair, lean arms and flawless pale skin, there was the small, thin cut on the side of her foot. Looking around them, Hinata could surmise that the girl must have gotten herself hurt by tripping over a small, jagged end of a rock.
Hinata's gaze narrowed as she thought about treating this particular wound. It would not be difficult, but the concerned little Genin could not help but wish she had her pack with her. There are band-aids and even some cleaning cloth that I could have used if they were with me. However, since she did not have the resources she wanted, she would just work with what she had. She was no registered medical ninja, but she would not leave this girl alone with a bleeding foot, no matter how slight it was.
Hinata turned her gaze to Haku. "I have some cream with me that I can apply to the cut. It may not be a bandage, but it does work very well as an anti-bacterial agent. First, though, I need to stop the bleeding. Is that alright with you?"
The heir to the Hyuuga was considering two things. One: she activate her Byakugan and locate the particular point to staunch the bleeding before applying the cream. Two: she does not activate her bloodline and let the blood run, seeing that it did not seem too serious. Making small talk would be awkward, though. Leaving the girl behind to get her pack would take too much time. But...if she were to go back with Hinata, then...
The timid Hyuuga girl shook off the idea quickly, because having the other girl limp about a bleeding foot was very insensitive of her. She would do nothing to exacerbate her condition. Instead, Hinata watched Haku with a patient, expectant look in her eyes.

{name:Haku#|#picture:29}Haku's brow creased and he frowned slightly, it wasn't as if he was unaware of that snake Gatou's effects on the villagers. He felt bad for them, truly he did... but Zabuza had taken this job, and Haku's only loyalty was to the man who had saved him so long ago.
He tried not to think too much of his past, the suffering he went through on the streets, alone, hungry, frightened. And it was hard for him to see others going through what he did... but it was a fools errand to think one person could save the whole world. 'Zabuza is a smart man. He's doing what's best for us in order that we can survive. I'll protect what's precious to me, nothing will take it away.'
The girl seemed to regret asking so personal a question, shaking her head and nervously retracting her words. It was a shame really, as it could have opened more opportunities for him to find out more about what he was up against. This dance was proving a bit more challenging than he had wanted, but Haku was a patient person, and the prize promised to be very fruitful if he could just get her to talk.
The only problem was her sudden dismissal, perhaps he'd made her uncomfortable, after all, she didn't know him at all. And it was clear from her demeanor that she was a sensitive and delicate young woman. She'd said her goodbyes and had turned away from him, her mind seemingly far away before he could take action.
'... no, I don't think I'm quite done yet.' His mind was already calculating his next move. Anything to have her stay, just awhile longer... just until he got what he wanted. Smiling, he made a deep bow to her “Yes. It was very nice talking to you too. I hope that you stay safe and are able to succeed in your mission.”
Now for the final move. Gingerly, he turned away, eyes furtively moving across the forest floor. Surely there was something... two, four, six feet away and he finally spied something that would do. The forest floor was littered with sticks, rocks, and leaves that had met their final resting place on the cold hardened ground. And to one not being careful, it would be easy to twist one's ankle on the uneven surface. Something that was as good a ploy as any. But he was a master of misdirection, and a simple fall would not be enough to keep her near him.
Haku feigned a sudden trip, letting the basket tumble to the ground as he landed hard on his hip. As he'd fallen, his fingers had deftly produced one of his razor sharp needles. The pain would be real, more convincing that way to the enemy, just in case she were skilled in the medical arts. One quick slice and to all appearances he'd gashed his foot open by the debris on the ground. Dead broken leaves and sharp twigs mingled with the streak of blood blooming on his fair skin and he gasped loudly from the sting.

{name:Hinata#|#picture:0}“That man Gatou has quite a bit of money they say. Enough to hire every thug and criminal in the land. I think he is too dangerous at this point, it'd take a small army or someone of immense power to stop him.”
Ah, but it wasn't as if Hinata didn't know this. She had heard the situation from Kurenai as well as Kakashi. However, even this village girl knew about Gatou. It was obvious that Gatou was an affluent person. He was also a successful businessman, if he could keep around such dangerous shinobi such as nukenin. It spoke well of his connections as well as his influence with other people. Still, he was a fool if he thought that he could just come in to someone else's country without anyone noticing.
Shinobi were observant and perceptive to the point of paranoia. Tazuna had been right in hiring a team of shinobi from a powerful village, despite the fact that they were merely genin. The two Jounin senseis of each team would be able to do something, was what he must have been hoping. To the old man's credit, he was right. Team 7 and Team 8 of Konohagakure no Sato would not fail him, nor the people of Wave Country.
To the pretty pink-clad girl, she replied "Ah, I see. So everyone knows about Gatou..." Hinata looked at the older girl. The young Hyuuga wondered if she had been exposed to Gatou's tyranny. The people of Wave Country have been, looking at the desolate town and the haggard looks on the peoples' faces. "Has he done anything to hurt you?"
Geh! Why did I say that?! The shy kunoichi bit down on her tongue. Even now, she hasn't stopped that awful, childhood habit of blurting things out at the worst times. Hinata unlocked her jaw and set out to explain herself. "Ah, i-it's just that the people in town are so poor and desolate, I-I just thought...I met some people who had been hurt by Gatou and his men...I don't mean to assume, b-but it would be terrible if he hurt you or your family, too."
She kept her stuttering to a minimum. This was good. However, now it felt awkward, because it felt as if she were intruding into the other girl's personal life. That wouldn't do. If she were depressed by Gatou already, there was no need to remind her of his oppression of the people. Oppression...like the Bunke at home. The Hyuuga Branch House made her think of her bitter, resentful, prodigious older cousin. His cold expression, the simmering hatred just bubbling beneath the surface...the Hyuuga heiress shook her head.
Instead, Hinata said "You don't need to answer that. Thank you for your help. I'm glad that you chose to speak to me. It was really nice..."
Hmm, maybe I should go back now. I wonder what Kiba-kun and Shino-kun are up to? Hinata walked away from the other girl, seemingly lost in thought. I wonder what we should cook for dinner...perhaps Tsunami-san needs assistance. After all, there are two more boys in her household. Besides her father and son, there are Kakashi-sensei, Naruto-kun, Sasuke-kun, Sakura-san...then Kurenai-sensei, Kiba-kun and Shino-kun. That is a lot of people to provide for. And realizing that there were no good spices and herbs and other such ingredients for food in town, the forest was a good source to find such food.
She hadn't realized she had walked off several feet from the waterfall, kneeling on the ground to examine a particular dark green plant.

{name:Haku#|#picture:29}'Hm. Sweet, her caring for my welfare. I could kill her where she stands, and yet, she's worried about me. Well, worried about who she thinks I am anyway.' It was kind of disarmingly... cute, the way the dark haired girl in front of him blushed and fidgeted at his casual comments. The world was far too harsh a place for one such as she... and even worse, for someone like that to be in the career of a ninja... it surely meant certain doom.
Haku tilted his head slightly, eyes silently taking in every gesture and nuance that flitted over her features. 'Someone like this... should have a protector. A genin... alone in a foreign land, away from her teammates and sensei...' Zabuza would scoff at their idiocy.
Fortunately for the girl in front of him, he didn't have any intention of harming her, and hopefully, he would be able to avoid doing so in the future as well. It was easy to kill in defense of someone he cared for, or to kill someone who had the intention of killing him first. But, he had never managed to feel nothing when killing someone who had done him no harm. It was only through strength of will that he'd managed to hide how sick it truly made him feel. Zabuza would tolerate no weakness, and Haku would die rather than fail the man who had given his life meaning.
"No, but thank you for your concern... I'm not here to work for him. I'm here to help take care of him. That is, I'm here to find some of his subordinates. They are causing some problems for the townspeople. A bridge is being built by an old man and some other townsmen, but he is being targeted by two missing nins."
“Oh, I see! I'm glad that you are just trying to find them instead of stopping them.” Haku stopped and glanced warily around them, lowering his voice to a whisper, a trusting confidence between them. “That man Gatou has quite a bit of money they say. Enough to hire every thug and criminal in the land. I think he is too dangerous at this point, it'd take a small army or someone of immense power to stop him.”

{name:Hinata#|#picture:0}“Oh yes, I'm certain that I could go into town to purchase what I'm searching for...but, I do so enjoy walking in this forest, it's such a beautiful day, isn't it? And the forest is bountiful, I've had pretty good success in finding what I need.”
The older girl turned her head towards her basket, deep brown eyes sweet and gentle. Hinata felt the need to help her in her search for berries and mushrooms. It wasn't so much as the young Hyuuga's generosity kicking in rather than her own hobby of picking herbs and other wild roots. Hinata learned when she was a little girl about the properties of certain flowers that could help heal and soothe...just as much as some could spew poison and lethally harm a person. The feel of grassy roots and leafy greens between her fingers she was not averse to holding (she tolerated the raw feel of it), but she enjoyed grinding and mixing them into potential healing salves and herbal creams. (She needed them to apply to herself after receiving numerous bruises from her father from sparring sessions.)
This hobby was looked down upon by her father and some of the Hyuuga members, but some of the maids and Hatsumi believed it was a good art to learn, like ikebana. The Hyuuga heiress chewed her inner lip. The process of making herbal medicine was not so much an art, but a science; it was not for aesthetics or even leisure (though Hinata felt much pleasure making them) that drove her to create it, but for observation and experimentation. There was no one to dress her wounds (Hatsumi helped, but she did not have much knowledge of herbs), so Hinata learned how to do it herself. It served her well to bring along during training and missions.
“No, it's quite alright... you aren't keeping me from anything. I'm rather enjoying being able to talk to you. It's not everyday that I get to talk to someone as important as you."
A bright pink flush bloomed on Hinata's cheeks.
"A-ah, thank you, I enjoy speaking with you as well..." Goodness, but the pale-eyed kunoichi couldn't help but shuffle her feet as she averted her eyes from the brown-haired girl. "I'm not that important, really...I'm just a Genin, not that much of a high-ranked shinobi in my village." Mou, what a way to conduct yourself in front of a stranger! She's only a rural villager...I can't make myself seem that unimportant! But I can't tell her much either. Kurenai had told them that revealing too much of their identities would put them in danger. Hinata knew this, but this girl was different. She was most likely from a poor farming family, so what did they know about the shinobi, or the world they lived in?
"Are you here because of Gatou?”
Pupil-less orbs looked at the pink-clad figure. "Gatou? I was just asking about him..."
“I hope... you aren't going to work for that man.” Her fingers curled at her jaw, biting her lower lip, apparently worried. “I mean... it's not that I think you couldn't handle yourself after seeing you practice. But... well... please, forgive me. I just... you seem to be very nice, and I would worry.”
The shy kunoichi was touched. A stranger who knew not much of her plight was concerned for her. It had been a while that anyone other than her sensei or her teammates felt that way for her (her family did not). "No, but thank you for your concern...I'm not here to work for him. I'm here to help take care of him. That is, I'm here to find some of his subordinates. They are causing some problems for the townspeople. A bridge is being built by an old man and some other townsmen, but he is being targeted by two missing nins."
She said too much already, biting her lower lip, eyes looking to the side, thinking about the misery of the people of Wave Country. "You should be careful. If you're planning to go near the bridge, just know that there are some dangerous people around. It would not do for you to get caught in the crossfire."

{name:Haku#|#picture:29}The girl in front of him was not shy about her thirst for knowledge at least. This was a very good sign that it wouldn't take long for him to ease past her defenses to find out the information that he wanted to know. But first for the small talk...
Haku gave her a small smile, averting his eyes coyly to the basket held loosely in his long slender fingers. “Oh yes, I'm certain that I could go into town to purchase what I'm searching for...” (Of course he could bribe any number of the townspeople to find out about the newcomers...) “but, I do so enjoy walking in this forest, it's such a beautiful day, isn't it? And the forest is bountiful, I've had pretty good success in finding what I need.” (Such as the unexpected presence of this young kunoichi from the Fire Country.)
He paused and tilted his head slightly in thought. The next part called for more delicate maneuvering if he was to satisfy her curiosity while still gaining her confidence. His brow furrowed slightly, eyes clouding momentarily with the trouble Gatou had caused for them so far. Haku definitely didn't like the man. Still, Zabuza knew what was best for them both, telling Haku that the money they'd make would be able to support them both for at least a year. Not that Haku had any presumptions about what that meant. Zabuza was a man of action, never liking to sit still for any length of time. After this mission was concluded they'd be on the road and off to another job.
“No, it's quite alright... you aren't keeping me from anything. I'm rather enjoying being able to talk to you. It's not everyday that I get to talk to someone as important as you." But at the mention of Gatou he let his eyes flash upward in order to sense her thoughts more clearly. One of his hands drifted up to his jawline, an outwardly nervous gesture. "Are you here because of Gatou?”
Zabuza was proud of Haku's skills in deception for a reason. “I hope... you aren't going to work for that man.” He bit his lip, appearing for all intents and purposes not wanting to offend her if that was her path. After all, it wasn't for one of his apparent status in life to be so opinionated. “I mean... it's not that I think you couldn't handle yourself after seeing you practice. But... well... please, forgive me. I just... you seem to be very nice, and I would worry.”

{name:Hinata#|#picture:0}“Oh, this? Nothing yet... I was just on my way to find some herbs and maybe some berries or mushrooms if I'm lucky.”
Hinata raised her eyebrows at this. From what the Leaf kunoichi surmised, the pink-clad girl was not even part of the lower classes of Wave country. When Team 8 strolled through the streets, Hinata saw just how poverty-stricken the people were. Some old men were sitting on the ground with nothing but a thin garment over their shoulders, some women had lain out some merchandise that were not even of value, and children...some children had the tendency to pick-pocket tourists. Sakura had told her about one man whom she thought was a pervert, accidently kicking him to the ground before he could lay a hand on her. Kurenai, Shino, Kiba and herself had learned about Gatou, and how he had turned Wave into the state it was now.
But this girl...she probably isn't even a part of the city. She may live in a more rural area. Could she be from a family of farmers? Hinata looked at the girl, meeting her gaze finally. She had something to ask her. However, the brown-haired girl beat her to it. "Are you new to the area? I don't recall having seen you in the village before."
"Ah, no...I am not from this place. I come from the mainland...Fire Country, that is. I'm here on some important business."
There! Hinata had managed a sentence without stuttering once. She was so proud of herself, she could've patted herself on the back. Her sensei would have approved, Kiba and Akamaru would jump and yip for joy for her, and Shino would give her a deep-toned "Good job, Hinata". But alas, they weren't here. Still back at Tsunami-san's house, perhaps the boys were training, and Kurenai was talking with Kakashi. She would take her team out to gather intelligence later on after speaking about mission details with the one-eyed Jounin.
Speaking of missions...
The shy, quiet, and dark-haired Genin set her expression into what must have looked like a serious face to the other girl before her. "These items you are gathering...mushrooms and berries? Aren't they available in town?"
Realizing that the girl may not live in town, Hinata ventured in a less interrogatory tone "I'm sorry for taking up your time, but I was wondering if you live in town. Do you know anything about a man named Gatou? I have heard some bad things about him...hiring bodyguards and terrorizing everyone..."

{name:Haku#|#picture:29}Haku's mouth curved into a soft reassuring smile, as he tilted his head to gaze warmly at the pretty dark haired girl in front of him. 'So far so good. I think it will be a pleasure getting to know this one.'
She had a timidity that belied the fact that she was entering into a profession that required a steely resolve and ruthless strength. Still, kunoichi were renowned for their ability at subterfuge. Perhaps this was merely an act, the way she fidgeted nervously with her fingers, and dropped her gaze meekly at his steady gaze. 'Perhaps...'
He let his eyes slide down to the basket held so lightly in his slender fingers. “Oh, this?” He shrugged as he turned the wicker upside down, demonstrating its empty contents to the girl. “Nothing yet... I was just on my way to find some herbs and maybe some berries or mushrooms if I'm lucky.”
“Are you new to the area? I don't recall having seen you in the village before. “ he smiled pleasantly, knowing that the excitement he was feeling was completely hidden from his demeanor. Haku had a natural talent when it came to disarming people, making them feel they were with a long lost friend or close family member. It had been something that Zabuza had praised him for on many occasions, and Haku drank it up like he was dying of thirst.
If he could only draw out the information about the leaf's numbers and abilities, it would further please his master, and surely aid in the success of their mission.

{name:Hinata#|#picture:0}“Sumimasen... I didn't mean to disturb your practice.” The pink-clad figure walked towards her. Hinata could not help but stare at the person before her. She had long, thick brown hair, which the young Genin couldn't help but wonder how it shimmered under the soft sunlight. Curious, lighter brown eyes peeked at her from a pretty face, smooth without any blemish. She wore a black collar around her trim neck, which was to compliment the dark swirls around her pink robe. She held a wicker basket in one hand as she came to a step a few steps from the Hyuuga heiress.
At first, Hinata didn't say anything. The twelve-year-old kunoichi was too stunned by the other girl's presence, and the way she looked...the girl was so much of a beautiful stranger that Hinata stood there, overwhelmed. Oh my...she's so pretty...not even Sakura-san and Ino-san can compare.
Haruno Sakura and Yamanaka Ino usually held the title of "Queen of the School" while they were in the Academy (usually held by Ino, but always challenged by Sakura when it came to matters of importance, of which was utmost concern, the class heart-throb, Uchiha Sasuke). They were always bickering and taunting each other, and had gotten worse when Sakura had gotten to be on a team with Sasuke. The cherry-blossom girl with soft pink tresses, pale, jade eyes and the confident, blue-eyed blonde were both pretty and aesthetically pleasing (if one could just ignore their high-pitched girlish squealing around Sasuke and loud rants towards Naruto), and yet, this girl, Hinata knew, would blow all the class kunoichi in the Academy - no, the whole village of Konoha - out of the water.
What Sakura and Ino didn't have was this girl's poise and elegance. It seemed to Hinata that whatever quality she herself lacked, she would always find it in another, such as the two kunoichi in her graduating class. Now, she found it in a simple village girl who had just came upon her while she was training. Inwardly, Hinata sighed. If only she didn't have such plain features and low self-esteem...
“You really are amazing though, I just couldn't help but to stop from my errands to watch. Are you by chance a ninja?”
Hinata stood up straighter at this, head snapping up to attention as she looked straight at the girl. "A-ah, yes, in fact I am." Her hand tucked back a dark-blue tendril of hair behind her ear in a self-conscious gesture that the Hyuuga heiress could not help. She bit her lower lip. A contemptuous voice whispered scathingly in her head. Some shinobi you're making yourself out to be...letting yourself get intimidated like this. "I was just practicing some moves of mine...I did not know there was anyone nearby."
Silently, the heir to the Hyuuga clan wondered if she should have activated her Byakugan before entering the forest. To be so careless as Hinata had been...someone could have been spying on her. Could have attacked her. Could have killed her. But, it's just a normal girl here. If I had my doujutsu activated, she might get scared of me. Hinata felt glad that she didn't have her bloodline on at the moment. In actuality, she disliked having to see the big, bulging veins at her temples when she fought. To her, it looked ugly and did nothing to help her self-confidence, no matter if she was of the noble clan of the Hyuugas.
White eyes looked down to the basket in the girl's hand. "Um, if I may ask, what is it in that basket of yours? Are you shopping for something?"

{name:Haku#|#picture:29}At last the time had come, the girl had spotted him against the backdrop of the forest foliage. She might not have been an extremely skilled level fighter, but she held her composure to a respectable degree. 'And now it comes... let's see what happens.'
Haku gently pushed off the tree, putting his full weight on his feet once more. He kept the mechanisms of his thoughts to himself, carefully guarded behind years of training to be the perfect tool for the man who had given his life meaning. His face and body held none of the tension of a seasoned fighter facing an enemy. Instead, his easy smile filtered effortlessly into his eyes. After all, there was no reason for hostilities at this point.
“Sumimasen... I didn't mean to disturb your practice.” Gingerly, he made his way across the long grass towards the timid Kunoichi. Already he was sizing up her body language, looking for any suggestion of what she could be capable of.. “You really are amazing though, I just couldn't help but to stop from my errands to watch. Are you by chance a ninja?”
Her appearance was nothing out of the ordinary. She was shorter than he was, by a few inches. Body clad in a heavy parka, and pants that ended mid-calf. Her manner of dress was obviously a means to blend into the background, something her body language had said loud and clear the moment she realized she was not alone. This one lacked confidence in herself, a trait that might be beneficial to know in a fight.
As for her face, she was pretty enough. Short cropped black hair, surrounding a face that still held some of the babyfat of youth. But her eyes... her eyes as they flickered timidly towards him, were devoid of color causing him to pause slightly as he approached.
'... well, this is interesting. I truly am lucky to have crossed her path in such a manner.'

{name:Hinata#|#picture:0}Droplets sprayed all around her as she guided the gentle rain around her back down to the river she stood upon. She twisted her upper body, bringing her arms around in a whirling motion as she made certain that no more sprays of water would rain down upon her. Hinata would have stopped sooner had she known she was being watched. As it was, she was caught unawares, and as soon as saw the person several feet across from her, she blushed fiercely.
I can't believe I didn't see that person! Goodness, what Father would say if I let down my guard like that...Kurenai-sensei too! Oh, how embarrassing! The young Genin berated herself for her lack of forethought in checking if anyone else was around the area before plunging in the river recklessly. Though, it's not as if I went for a swim, I'm training by doing chakra control exercises! She bit her lower lip.
Hinata stopped her circular movements, coming to a stop, standing straight and arms at her sides. She stepped out of the river, onto the ground, the crunch of the cool grass clear underneath her feet. She would have moved forward, but she was too nervous to. The Hyuuga girl found that her hands folded in front of her lap. She had the urge to fidget and play with her fingers, a twitchy habit that she had never been able to get rid of. This is ridiculous. After so many years, I am still like this!
She should have been able to walk without having any timidity in her stance, to be able to speak up and ask about the person a few feet away from her, but again, she found her shyness taking hold of her. What kind of shinobi are you, for gods' sakes? You're a Genin, you graduated from the Academy, and this is your first mission! Get a grip, Hyuuga!
And yet, despite this little pep-scold-monologue she was having, Hinata found herself retreating inside of her shell. Heat gathered in her cheeks as she kept her hands clasped neatly in front of her lap, her head lowered. Pale eyes dared a venturous glance at the figure leaning on the tree in front of her, a silent question in her gaze.

{name:Haku#|#picture:29}Haku couldn't have asked for a better situation... it was like fate had put on a private showing of one of his enemy's strengths and weaknesses. 'If only it could always be so easy...' The girl was completely absorbed in her training, so much so that even now she hadn't felt his eyes upon her, drinking her up like a cup of fine sake.
'She has potential, yet, to let her guard down in foreign territory is a mistake.' Zabuza had instilled constant vigilance in his ward, in their world it was death to ever let it drop. Yet, Haku envied this girl for her innocence, innocence that had been long ago lost to him.
Still, he was careful not to let his body language show the source of his keen interest in watching her. His kept his slender delicate form relaxed, the expression on his face pleasant with a mix of awe and respect combined. After all, a mere villager would be astounded at such a display of skill. It was a pity that she still had a way to go before her fighting abilities would be a force to be reckoned with.
But then... he'd thought little of Kakashi's team as well, and they'd proven to be a bit of a surprise. Still, they were all Genin, skills a touch green and unhoned... still under the watchful eyes of their teachers, like a clutch of ducklings following in line behind their mother. One day they would mature and leave the nest to find their own path, whereas Haku was with his master by choice, not assignment, and would follow Zabuza to the ends of the earth.

{name:Hinata#|#picture:0}She loved it.
She enjoyed the feel of the water all around her, chakra flowing through her body as she spun and twirled, making splashes and small droplets of water fly off of her (they never touched her, not with the protective shield that was around her now, not that she realized what she was doing, a precursor to the Hyuuga Souke's powerful techniques). With this, no one could touch her. If an enemy nearby were to try to attack her, their weapons would bounce off her and return with perhaps twice the deadly force as it was thrown. However, Hinata did not realize this at the moment. All that mattered was to keep the tiny flecks of droplets off her body. And that meant maintaining a constant flow of movement.
She arched her back, flipping, kicking up her feet, her lower body up in the air, while her upper body faced the running river beneath. For a moment, she was airborne, free, unbound by earthly restrictions. Time froze for a moment as she could see the water beneath her as her face looked down at the river. Her legs scissored down, right foot first, then the left as she landed, collecting the precise amount of chakra as she had before to balance on the moving body of water.
The Hyuuga girl felt a bit disoriented from the spin she had taken, but kept regulating her chakra to her feet. To steady herself once more, she lifted right foot, touching her toe forward as much as she could, keeping her left still as she stretched the right. She then spread her arms outwards, up to shoulder-height, then raised her head towards the sky, eyes still closed. She could feel the sunlight streaming down, warming her face.
Hinata folded her arms in at the elbow, hands meeting each other, middle fingers touching. She lowered her head back to its original position. She kept that stance for a moment, keeping a pause. She could hear the running of the stream, the roar of the waterfall, the wind whistling through the leaves of the trees. For a moment, it was just her and the sounds of nature. Then she moved.
She set the heel of her right foot down, stepping with that foot then moving forward with the left. Like with the right, she allowed no weight on the left, the toe pointing down at the water. She felt light, like a ballet dancer, as she kept this stance for a moment again. She rolled her head around her neck. After that moment, she swept her left leg behind her, lowering her arms down towards her stomach, her head bowed.
Her hands her folded in front of her lap now, with her head bowed still.
With her right foot, however, she burst into movement. Sweeping it outward, she lowered her upper body towards the ground (the water beneath her feet), arms raised up behind her back, as she got into a taijutsu stance. She brought up her arms, hands striking in the open-palm manner of the Gentle Fist. Chakra flowed through the circulatory system into her hands, as she turned a quarter to clench both hands into closed fists to punch, then ducked down into a crounching stance as before, bringing up fisted hands into open palms again, striking at the waterfall.
Chakra-enhanced palms caused rain to fall over her. Immediately, Hinata shifted her stance as she brought her hands arcing up. Instead of doing the follow-up flip, she made a swirling gesture with both arms, keeping her legs and feet planted on the water below, spread apart. The droplets changed direction, following her chakra-emitting fingertips, down into the river, where they flowed down into a greater body of water, down into the sea.
Finally opening her eyes, watching the water flow down the river, Hinata kept this movement flowing. She shifted her upper body, making Tai Chi-esque movements, arms following up in slow, sweeping fluid gestures. As she did, she caught sight of a figure in pink, holding a basket of some sort.

Name: Hotaru Title: Blazing Heart Series: Naruto Elements: an Event/Situation- public speech; movement/action- falling on someone; a sense (touch)- static shock
------------
Hyuuga Hinata stood hiding behind the shoji, watching the disinterested, lax form of Chuunin-turned-ANBU captain Uchiha Itachi. It had been several months since they last saw each other, not that the young heir of the Hyuugas had been counting, but she felt it to be a long time since her father had taken her to see her betrothed. The Hyuuga head received word from the Uchiha head about Itachi's membership in something called ANBU. While she did not know all the details about it (her father said they were part of the Hokage's elite forces, but little else on what they did), the Hyuuga heiress understood that it was something great.
This was why they were at the Uchiha estate again. Her father was with Uchiha-sama to pay his regards about his son's latest accomplishment. Hinata, of course, was there to go see her fiancée and give her regards to him. She did not wonder about why her father did not tell the young Uchiha himself. After all, Father and Itachi-san don't like each other. Thus, it was more convenient for the two clan heads to converse, and let the children do the rest. Itachi and Hinata got along better, anyhow.
How long has it been, though? Well, I am now eight years old. Hatsumi-san said I could write letters to him that she can give to Itachi-san, but...I wonder if he even read them. Did he think about me? Or was he too busy with his missions? The latter seemed quite likely, for she had been hearing about how distant Itachi had become. Not that he wasn't like that before. Hinata knew that he was not close to anyone, not his clan and definitely not his father. She had to wonder if he had distanced himself from even his brother and his one friend that he had told her about before.
Will he distance himself from me?
Hence, her hesitance in approaching him. Because of her small stature and non-existent presence, the Uchiha servants disregarded her, and she could therefore listen in on their whisperings.
"That Itachi-sama...he never smiles..."
"Inabi-san and Yashiro-san say he has been acting very strangely as of late..."
"I even heard that he disregards Uchiha-sama at council meetings!"
More hushed whispers and mutterings amongst the maids. It didn't bother Hinata, though. Itachi-san always defies Uchiha-sama some way. Don't they know that already? From her earlier visits to the Uchiha house, Itachi had told her about his father's attitude towards him. As long as he did what was required of him, his father left him alone. Even so, I hope Itachi-san hasn't been punished. She had seen the looks that Uchiha-sama had given his son and heir whenever he did something inappropriate in his eyes. She didn't live there, so she did not presume anything.
Hinata poked her head out a bit, the dark-blue tendrils on both sides of her face swaying towards the left.
Itachi remained several feet away, sitting there, seemingly watching the flowers in his backyard. The Hyuuga heiress balked at this. He didn't like flowers! There was rarely anything that had any worth in his eyes. So why was he doing that?
Her father expected her to give her congratulations to him (meaning both his and hers), but how was she supposed to do that if her fiancée refused to turn around and face her?
Won't you acknowledge me?
Hinata was losing her courage quickly, and it wasn't long before she thought about going back to her father's side and waiting for Itachi. But if she went back to her father, it meant that she would have failed him in the simple task of telling her betrothed congratulations. And so, the little Hyuuga mustered up her lowering confidence and tiptoed towards the Uchiha prodigy.
She would've succeeded in making it across quietly if she hadn't tripped on a bump in the floorboard. "Eh?!" came out in a squeak as she pitched forward and felt gravity tug her now-heavy-feeling kimono towards the wooden floor. The little girl shut her eyes tightly as she braced for the hard impact, but it didn't come. Gulping, pale, white eyes looked into deep, onyx eyes. He set her on her feet once more as she stood there, twiddling her index fingers together. Hinata thought about saying thanks, but other words flew out of her mouth.
"H-how are you, Itachi-san? It has been a while. I hope you still remember me."
Itachi blinked, and she watched as he turned around, his back facing her. Her heart sank, and her head dropped. Maybe this wasn't such a good idea after all...
"Of course I haven't forgotten you."
Her eyes widened as she caught sight of a small, white lily in his hand. Itachi was kneeling in front of her so that they were head-to-head, eye-level with each other. Before she could say anything, he reached out, and tucked the flower behind her right ear. His touch caused a current of electricity to course throughout her whole body, the message of "HE'S TOUCHING ME!" making her blush bright pink.
She fought for control over her fidgeting hands as she tried to collect herself. "Th-thank you, Itachi-san."
He nodded, standing up again and beckoned her to come over. "You may sit down."
Smiling, Hinata walked over and sat besides him, both content with the comfortable silence between them.

{name:Haku#|#picture:29}The girl seemed oblivious to his presence, so focused on her training that she hadn't noticed him as he walked silently across the forest floor to the edge of the clearing. Haku paused partially hidden by a tall oak, not yet wanting to reveal his proximity. He'd seen her before, when the newcomers had arrived in the village. Leaf Ninja. Reinforcements for Tazuna's hired muscle that had proven themselves so problematic to his master's mission.
Their first fight had hardly gone off smoothly. Haku had stayed in the shadows as directed, and watched with keen interest at the abilities of their enemies. Three Genin level ninja, and their Sensei by the looks of it. At the time, Haku had thought that surely fate was smiling upon them. That was until they turned the tables against them and nearly stole Zabuza's precious life away from him.
It had been luck, pure and simple. Luck that had allowed Haku to step in right at the last second to seemingly dispatch the renowned Demon of the Mist. Luck that had allowed him to slip his arm under the 'dead' man and vanish, while the Leaf Jounin had merely stood by and watched, having been momentarily deceived by his disguise. Kakashi must have been in really bad shape in order to have let his defenses slip in the middle of a battle. At least that much had gone off in their favor, allowing the young ninja to remove Zabuza to safety and to restore him to life by removing the needles that had rendered him into his death-like state.
Even now, he could barely move. His body still too weak from his temporary death state. Their mission was at a standstill, and to make matters even more difficult, the Konoha Shinobi had called in for reinforcements. Haku's good fortune had held up enough to see them as he was out gathering healing herbs. More Genin by the look of it, but they were an unknown as far as what kind of threat they would present if encountered in battle.
'And that leads to the question of where her teammates are? Surely, she wouldn't be out her all alone without a reason.' His eyes turned to casually scan around him, mindful that he could be being watched. Appearances were everything when danger lurked all around. It was what had saved them when they had encountered Kakashi and his students. And it was something that Haku was very good at.
He shifted his weight nonchalantly on the other leg, and moved his hand to brush his long hair back over the soft pink yukata that he had donned before heading out. Hopefully his gentle androgynous features would disarm anyone from thinking of him as a seasoned killer. Instead, they'd merely see a simple villager out fetching berries or herbs for his (or her) poor hungry family.
His eyes slid across the water to refocus on the girl as she struck the water. 'Perhaps, this would be a good opportunity to find out more about what we're facing.' Moving plainly into clear view, he rested against the large oak, hands lightly holding onto the empty herb basket and watched her graceful form spin in fluid circles.

{name:Hinata#|#picture:0}Title: The Mist that Clouds the Sun Series: Naruto Authors: Hotaru (Hinata), Hinaara (Haku) Comments: AU Naruto. Set in the Wave arc. Team 8 comes to assist Team 7 by tracking down Zabuza. A chance encounter occurs when the heir to the Hyuuga clan and the apprentice of the Demon of the Mist meet...
-----
Cold grass tickled the toes of her sandaled feet as she walked through the forest. Looking up, she saw wispy clouds in the blue sky. She turned her gaze ahead of her. Trees were on both sides, a straight path ahead of her. It seemed that this was a part of the Wave that was not covered with white sleet. Not that she minded at all. When she and her team got to Wave, she couldn't help but marvel at the small, white flakes that fell from the sky. Kiba-kun disliked the weather, Akamaru yipping his agreement, for it was too cold for them. Kurenai-sensei had told them that they would find warm lodgings as soon as they found Team 7. Shino-kun, on the other hand, did not say anything. He neither liked nor disliked the place they were sent for on their first mission.
Hinata, on the other hand, liked where they were. It wasn't so much as the cold that attracted her (she agreed with Kiba on one thing: they preferred the warmth of their native Konoha), but the difference in their settings. Their first mission, in another land, a different country, a foreign nation! As a ranked shinobi, a Genin, she knew that there were going to be times where she would be called away to go on missions, but this was amazing. It was the first time she had ever been outside the village, outside the Hyuuga walls. She was glad to be away from there, although she would never say so to her father.
She had been trying to please her father all her life, but her efforts were always for nought. The short, dark-haired girl wondered if he cared where she was right now, but quickly dismissed it. He was most likely training her sister at the moment. When he focused on something, he had no thought for anything else. Hanabi was a much more competent heir in his mind.
She shook her head. Poor girl...I'll have to make some healing salve for her. When I return home, I'll give it to her.
Dismal thoughts were interrupted by the sound of a creek nearby. I knew it! Picking up her pace, she ran towards the clearing and found the source of the sound. Hinata found herself by a river, sidelined by stones. She looked up, where water fell from a mountainous wall.
It was beautiful.
And it was the perfect place to train.
Here, she would have peace of mind, away from the loud, bragging Kiba, the all-too-knowing Shino, and her solicitous sensei. She loved them, but she wanted some time to herself at the moment. Seeing Team 7 took a lot out of her as well, not that she didn't mind being near Naruto. She enjoyed his sunny, upbeat, go-get-'em attitude. Nothing could keep him down. Sakura was nice to her, though much of her attentions was focused on Sasuke, other times beating and yelling at Naruto. Sasuke had hardly acknowledged her presence. Kakashi-sensei...he was a strange one. Kurenai-sensei had frowned at him reading his little orange book, telling him to keep it away from the children, to which he had nonchalantly replied that they were not children, but Genin, and shinobi of Konoha.
That is what we are. We are ninja now...we must fulfill our duty. Our mission.
Team 8 was to track down a missing-nin named Momochi Zabuza, who was looking to kill the bridge-builder, Tazuna. His scent had gone cold, however, from what Kiba and Akamaru had found. From then on, Kurenai told them to keep a look-out. With their abilities, they would be sure to find a lead.
Hinata stepped over some rocks, watching the unstill body of water ripple down south. As she stepped forward, she concentrated chakra into her right foot. Keep a constant flow of chakra...just enough to stay afloat. She then placed left foot onto the water, regulating the amount of chakra into her feet. Kurenai-sensei had stressed that they all work on their chakra control. While walking on trees was all good, walking on water was a different matter. However, this wasn't a strenuous exercise for Hinata. As a Hyuuga, chakra control was their specialty. She began training when she was very young, when she was three years old. Walking on trees is for babies...for children like Hanabi...I am 12 years old, a Genin, a shinobi of the Leaf. Water is constantly shifting, so I must keep control regularly...
Willing herself to stay calm and in control, she forgot that she had closed her eyes. Peeking open one pale eye, she found both feet standing still on the water. Tentatively, she took one step, closing her eyes shut, hoping she wouldn't sink. She didn't. She took another step, and finding that she wasn't sinking, walked slowly, around, until she found that she run back and forth, in front of the fall, and several feet away.
She cried out joyfully "I did it!"
Hearing her cry echo through the forest, she instantly shut her mouth. "I did it..." Now isn't the time for this...I'm here to train. Nodding, she decided on taking a Gentle Fist stance, pretending to strike an enemy. Chakra lashed out from her hand, slashing at the water falling a few steps away from the waterfall. Startled (she had gotten some droplets on herself), she repeated the strike, this time, sweeping her arm out. A thin slice was made through the falling, watery sheet before becoming whole again.
I wonder...
She swept an arm out again, then with the other. The same thing happened with the waterfall. Cut open by empty air (her Jyuuken), Hinata began to change her footwork. She turned, letting the chakra flow through her body to her arms, slicing through the water. Some droplets landed on her. She bit her lip. I must not get too much on me, otherwise, I'll have to explain to Kurenai-sensei and the others why I got myself all wet.
She spun on her heels, stood on her toes, twirling her body, arms arcing up into the air, chakra flowing throughout her body, to her feet to keep steady on the water, to her hands, which kept the offending spray of water from landing on her. It became a game to her.
And so, Hinata danced on the water, underneath blue sky and bright sun, by the running waters and protective trees.

{name:Hinata#|#picture:0}Ah, but of course. Itachi, despite being the brooding, genius, loner-type of boy, would have to have one friend. Someone who would see him for himself, rather than the young prodigy of the Uchihas, a Chuunin who would definitely become Jounin before he reached his fifteenth birthday. She wondered at the character of this Shisui person, about how he was able to approach the untouchable young Uchiha, being able to tell his six-year-old betrothed how he earned the title and position of "friend".
Knowing something of Itachi's persona during their times together, Hinata understood that he was not someone who shared his thoughts openly with anyone, not even his own family. She had gotten lucky somehow, for which she was deeply relieved and grateful. Her father would not have been pleased with her for not being able to communicate with the untouchable Chuunin. After all, they were going to be married in the future, so it was imperative that they get along now. Despite all this, Hinata was just happy that she had someone whom she could talk to, even if he lived far away and didn't get to see him all that much (she was used to it, the way she and her cousin did not interact all that much anymore).
She was just happy that she had someone to call a "friend".
Smiling slightly at this, small hands around her teacup, the Hyuuga heiress said "Itachi-san must be happy to have a friend. Shisui-san is very lucky. He must be very happy to have met Itachi-san, too."
Hinata knew that she was. Having a friend was a very good thing. It was reason to be very happy.

{name:Itachi#|#picture:1}Itachi didn’t answer her question at first. What was Shisui to him? A comrade sounded best but something told him that wasn’t quite right. Looking at Hinata he took another moment to consider it then finally answer her.
“A…friend.” He’d never had one before but the word worked where it was. Even if he didn’t get along with Shisui all the time. And if nothing else, he was the closest thing he had to a friend in all reality.
They had grown up together…though until recently had never really interacted. Now the other Uchiha could constantly be found at his place. He even had entered his room on several occasions (all of which had ended badly). Though it was somewhat refreshing. After all the other didn’t look at him as the prodigy or the human weapon. Of course he teased Itachi about it but it was clear he didn’t think that way.

{name:Mimiko Katsuragi#|#picture:16}And with those few simple words, every thought of Jirou fled her mind. In fact, every thought left her head entirely except for those two last words. Mimiko could only stare incomprehensively at the delivery man, her mouth parted as she rolled the name over and over in an attempt to dissect its meaning. Time froze, the name Zelman Clock the only thing left to echo in her awareness.
That is, until the delivery man's insistant cough snapped her out of her daze. Her body jolted her back to the present and to the somewhat impatient look of the man presenting her with the flowers. “Oh! So sorry! Of course... thank you so much!” She bowed quickly and took the proferred gift while a pink flooded her cheeks, a mixture of embarrassment and disbelief that anyone would ever send her a gift as beautiful as the bouquet in her arms. It still didn't connect on so many levels and her mind refused to believe what was happening.
The door shut automatically behind her as her body retreated back into the familiar surroundings of her new home. '... Zelman.... Clock.... sending me something... sending me... flowers? Zelman... Clock.' Her mind seized up in confusion. 'ME... flowers.... ' Her eyes drifted back to the frangrant roses in her arm, '... they ... are beautiful.' Butterflies fluttered through her body, making her feel sensations she hadn't felt since... well, since the last time Jirou had intimately embraced her to drink her blood.
Again she jolted back to her senses, remembering for the first time that she wasn't alone. 'Awaaaahhhh!!!! He's looking right at me! And here I am acting like an idiot! I'm sure... that this is some thanks for something I did... or... or maybe Zelman Clock simply is trying to butter me up to get me to negotiate something for him. Straightening her back, her hands clenched into fists as she tried to regain her composure. 'I'm sure that's it. It's some thank you, or... bribe. Uh... oh dear... maybe I should have refused them...'
Still, it was too late for that now. And to show any further signs of weakness to Jirou would just further add to her stress. Mimiko forced herself across the room, intent on finding a vase in which to put her gift. "Well, that was nice. It will add color to the apartment don't you think?” She spoke more to reassure herself that nothing out of the ordinary was going on. “Jirou-san... have you seen anything that I might be able to put these in?”

{name:Jirou#|#picture:15}Jirou watched Mimiko turn to the door, wishing there was maybe something more he could say. Really, she had already done so much for them there was no way he could ever pay the woman back properly. Besides, as much as the temptation to try and be more than just friends with the woman was, that was just not possible. He couldn't do that to her, to give her something that they both knew would be taken away some day. She was such a nice person, he didn't want her to waste her life like that.
Besides, she was so kind and innocent and he... was not. He was the Silver Blade, he was a warrior. Even if they tried to accomplish similar goals their methods were far too drastic to really be compatible. They would always be at odds. Not only that, but no matter how much he cared for her there was always Kotaru, who was his first and foremost priority.
"Mmmm, thank you for that Mimiko-san," he said. "You're very kind... oh, who could be at the door?"
~*~*~*~
The delivery man tapped his foot impatiently as he waited for the door to be answered. The large bouquet of flowers rested easily in his one had while the other clutched a picture. He had very clear instructions only to deliver the flowers and invitation to the woman in the picture by the name of Mimiko Katsuragi.
When the door opened he immediately checked the picture. Yup, it matched.
"Delivery for Mimiko Katsuragi," he said, extending the flowers and invitation. "Courtesy of Zelman Clock."

{name:Hinata#|#picture:0}Hinata blinked. It sounded as if the Uchiha prodigy did nothing to amuse himself in his free time. However, he did read. That was a good pastime, being an activity that required more mental effort than it did physical. Hatsumi would give her some books to look at, like ones on flowers, animals, and some folktales. Her father did not approve of too much 'light' reading, and instead, ordered the maid to give her books on how to fight better. That way, she would actually make more progress in her training. Turning away from this train of thought, she asked "Shisui...who is that?"
